Our guest house is in the heart of the French Vosges Mountains. Situated just north of the French Alps it is a land of forests, rivers and lakes - an area of truly amazing natural beauty with peaks rising to an altitude of more than 4600ft.

The Vosges is the perfect all-year-round holiday destination offering a great range of winter and summer activities.

Places to visit

Strasbourg  (France)
This beautiful city is the seat of the European Parliament and also boasts the best Christmas market in the region. At its heart you will find the enchanting Petit France, a maze of ancient forts, timber-framed buildings and waterways, renovated into what is now a charming array of restaurants, cafes and artisan shops. From summer 2007 the TGV  trains will stop at St. Die prior to arriving in the centre of Strasbourg. (1 hour 15 mins from the gîte)

Colmar  (France)
This is the delightful centre of the Alsace wine-making region. Here the colourful, ancient timber-framed buildings overlook the many small canals. It's a fantastic sight-seeing tip and is also good for shopping. (40 mins from the gîte)

Freiburg  (Germany)
Just over the German border on the edge of the Black Forest lies its capital, Freiburg, a fascinating university city. It's an excellent example of centuries of good city planning. Admire the Freiburg cathedral and the ancient city centre or just enjoy the café culture in the centre of the bustling city. (1hour 15 mins from the gîte)

Geradmer  (France)
Situated high in the Vosges mountains is the lakeside town of Geradmer. The large lake is the centre of many forms of aquatic adventures. Promenade around the lake or simply relax by it and have a meal in one of its many restaurants. (20 minutes from the gîte)

Kaisersberg  (France)
This quaint medieval town with cobbled streets and ancient overhanging buildings was built under the watchful gaze of its castle. (30 mins from the gîte)

Ribeauville  (France)
A must for anyone interested in seeing an example of a fortified medieval village. You can enjoy the views and walk through the huge terraced vineyards which surround the village - and then maybe its time for a coffee. (35 mins from the gîte)

Rust  (Germany)

Europa Park is one of the largest theme parks - great for the whole family. (1 1/2 hours from the gîte)
